Keuring
A 'keuring' is an inspection that each horse is subjected to before being eligible for registration in any of the Studbooks of MWR. Each Studbook will have different criteria, but on this page you will find an overall idea of what your horse will be subjected to at a keuring.
A real keuring consists of a conformation judgement, which involves an in-hand showing of the walk, trot and canter. The judges need to be able to see the horse's movements and disposition clearly, and will then score the horse. Sometimes it is also required for a horse to jump over an obstacle, but not every Studbook demands this of their registrees.
The conformation check is followed by a performance test (especially stallions, but some Studbooks will also require mares to do this). This performance test is under saddle (only hunter, jumper and dressage tack is allowed). The horse will have to jump over a certain height, and he will also be scored on his willingness and character.
Of course the MWR keurings will not be exactly like the real keurings, for the simple reason that our model horses cannot move, and thus cannot perform the performance tests. Instead of this, MWR only requires a conformation test, and a pedigree check. Separate studbooks may handle slightly different requirements from their candidates. More information on these requirements can be found on the pages of the separate Studbooks.
MWR has an Elite / Star Status program as well. This specific kind of status within a Studbook is awarded to exceptional performance and halter horses, or exceptional producers. More information is to be found on the pages of the Studbooks.
